DEI ACTION GROUP – Neurodivergence workshop (Member Event)
This will be an extended 2 hour session to get curious around Neurodivergence, and then ‘Design actions for Inclusion’.
The aim of our action group sessions is always as it says on the tin- to provide resources and help to enable DEI activity with our member organisations. Our aim for these sessions in 2022 is to create train the trainer type content that you can easily lift and shift straight into organisations; creating maximum impact.
The Alliance theme for this Quarter is Creativity wins new business; research shows us greater correlation between the super power of Neurodiversity and those working in the creative field. It’s simple: if we can become inclusive we can increase our creativity.
Jackie Bicknell, part of our DEI committee will chair, and we are delighted to have two special guests:
Haidee Elise, Head of Engagement & Innovation Projects at IDG, who recently completed an MBA on the topic will share:
- Key findings from her MBA live project
- Advice for businesses
- Her personal experience of working with dyslexia
Haidee has worked with well-known household brands and retailers for over 18 years, within a creative, marketing, project and learning capacity. This has been within various agencies and the past 10 years at IGD. As a dyslexic individual she is passionate about the topic of Diversity and Inclusion. In 2019 she worked on the first ever ‘Diversity in Food and Grocery’ report in partnership with MBS and PWC. Haidee graduated with an MBA from Central St Martins in 2020, of which her Live Project focused on unlocking neurodivergent talent within businesses.
Kevin Chesters, Co-Owner & Strategy Partner at Harbour Collective, will share lived experience covering:
- His lived experience with autism
- Changes he’d like to see in organisations/communities to better support and champion neurodiversity
- Information re Kevin’s co-written book: The Creative Nudge
Kevin’s distinguished career has seen him lead Strategy departments in agencies and client side, including BT, Saatchi & Saatchi, Wieden & Kennedy, Dentsu and Ogilvy. He is a member of the Account Planning Committee, a TEDx Speaker and a guest lecturer in creativity at UCA, AIU & Edinburgh Napier University. Kevin is a prodigious author of industry thought pieces and recently co-wrote the best selling book “The Creative Nudge”.
We will the split into 4 break out groups and review different parts of the employee lifecycle;
- Recruitment
- Onboarding and off boarding
- Development
- Engagement recognition and culture
To solution together ways we can enhance our process, policies, and practises to enable DEI through the lens of neurodivergence. Coming back together to share together and create a check list of actions we can take back to our organisations as a base (we will also provide other resources to support).
We ask you to use the content to run the same session within your organisation, before our next DEI action group meeting; in doing so you may generate even more ideas for the checklist.
As always we aim to create a safe space to grow our own personal ally ship muscles, please come with open mind and open heart and action focused mindset.
