This session is an introduction to conflict resolution and the benefits – and challenges – of holding difficult conversations.

First, we will look at how disagreements arise and examine participants’ attitudes to conflict. We all tend to have default positions which we go to in times of stress – each has its advantages and disadvantages. We will consider what happens if disputes are not managed properly and how we can make situations worse by adopting roles in the drama triangle.

Next, we will learn some tools to help reduce the drama and resolve conflict in our professional and personal lives. We will consider a model for holding difficult conversations. These are skills which can be taught and learned and improve with practice.  Few of us are fortunate enough to be natural mediators.

We will conclude the session by moving from insight to action. Participants will get an opportunity to put what they have learned into effect and leave with a commitment to play their part in reducing the drama.
