What is the Alliance of Media Independents (AMI)

AMI sits within the Alliance as a specialist community of ‘channel-neutral’ media planning and/or buying agencies. Its mission is to: Do significant things together, that no one of us could do alone. This means raising the value of ‘independence’ to clients,  and levelling the playing field vs HoldCo agencies. With members across most of the UK’s leading indies, AMI’s combining billings are over £1bn per year.

Media owners, digital platforms and other suppliers see AMI as an efficient way to engage with the indie agency long tail. This means that they are willing to offer value to AMI members over and above what any indie could access on their own. It’s also a community – connecting all levels and disciplines in member agencies, from leaders, to planners, FDs, HR Heads and more. We learn from each other, as well as enjoying collaborating!

AMI member agencies are happy to collaborate on most things (outside our key disciplines of planning and buying of course). If your agency is independent, makes most of its income from planning/buying media & routinely plans across the full range of media, we’d love to welcome you on board!

Who is eligible?

Currently we are accepting applications from Independent Media Agencies who offer their clients media-agnostic, neutral-solutions and derive over 50% of their revenue from media planning and/or buying.

AMI Team
After a career in print media advertising, Martin joined a small media business just before he turned 40 – and caught the indie bug. After leading that business through various phases of growth, it became The Specialist Works, one of the UK’s leading indie media agencies. Today TSW is part of the (still fiercely independent) What’s Possible Group and Martin has handed over the reins of TSW to concentrate on developing smaller businesses: Vector, an Amazon business, PASHN, a boutique media agency, and Connections, a retail media sales business in the US. Passionate about the independent media agency sector, Martin also now devotes a lot of his time to the launch of AMI, the most significant development in the sector in a generation.

Paul is one of a rare breed. A one-company man, from Tea Boy to CEO of the London-based independent agency, AMS Media Group. He is a passionate exponent of the independent agency sector and conducted an MBO from the founder in 2004, then oversaw the agency’s evolution from analogue to digital. Experienced in planning and buying campaigns across all media channels, working on a wide range of brands spanning multiple market sectors. Over the years, major clients have included household names such as Red Bull, Jägermeister, Royal Ascot, Royal Caribbean and National Grid. To Paul, independence is a virtue. Where clients enjoy unique benefits and colleagues find a home to build successful careers.
