TRAINING : The 7 Deadly Sins of Pitching
This session looks at brilliant pitching from the opposite (and often more fun and instructive) direction – the moments when it is going wrong. We will look at the seven most common mistakes we all can make in pitches, and how we can learn to avoid or bounce out of them and create exciting, engaging pitches that people will love.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:Â

- Have clear methods for turning these glitches around and creating great work
- Ask clear and simple coaching questions to other pitch team members that will help improve the work without the fall out

- The 7 deadly sins of pitching, from preparation to performance
- Examples of them happening in real lifeÂ
- Why they are bad if you don’t change them
- How each one happens in the first place
- Easy techniques for avoiding them and coaching others away from them

James Appleby has spent almost 25 years working in world class media and technology agencies, leading client relationships and comms strategy for top tier clients including Sainsbury’s, CompareTheMarket.com, Oatly and McVitie’s.
Coaching teams to crack a brief and respond with a performance that is both entertaining and informative in equal part has been a career long passion, hence his chairmanship and mentoring as part of NABS charity pitch course Fastforward for nearly a decade.
Following a spell as Managing Director of Assembly Media, he founded his own consultancy and training business Conquis, and works with a range of businesses in the marketing, media, advertising and technology spaces to sharpen team skills in pitching, collaborative working, and comms and media planning.
